Starts the International Grand Prix Vila de Blanes

Day of registrations and intentions of doing the first races of the championship

Club Vela Blanes, 2nd of January 2016.- First day of the International Grand Prix Vila de Blanes. Hard day from the registrations of the racers and the meteo breefing to the difficult wind conditions on the water and the arrival of some stormy clouds which helped to decrease the possibilities of racing in Blanes area.

When the fleet went out to the water, the wind was about 9 knots, what made the regatta comite keep some expectations about the possibilities of doing the races. After 13:30h all boats were in the water and the crews went into the regatta area with great aim of living an intense racing day.

The only problem was the doubt about if the wind was going to be fair, or shifty. At 15h they tried to do a start  because the conditions looked good from 9 to 10 knots. It allowed us to do the start of both races, 420 and Europes.

The intensity of the wind started to go up, and some stormy clouds arrived to the regatta area from the NW, which made the wind go up to 14 knots, so the sailors flied across the regatta area for some minutes. The wind was very shifty and it didn't look like it was going to be clear and stable so the only option was to cancel that race, while the 420 were in their second upwind and the Europes where reaching their first mark.

The wind completely died and the only possible choice at 16h was to cancel all the racing until tomorrow. When the fleet was going into the harbour it started to rain, and it was the confirmation of the end of the day.

Tomorrow the wind is expected to be more gentle than today.
